Friday marked another step in a month of firsts for U.S. Rep. April McClain Delaney, as part of her transition as a new member of Congress.
Rick Weldon, the president and CEO of the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce, had just introduced McClain Delaney to the crowd gathered for the official opening of her district office at 30 W. Patrick St. in downtown’s Frederick Center.

WASHINGTON — Congresswoman April McClain Delaney (MD-06) officially took the oath of office as a member of the 119th Congress, representing Maryland’s 6th Congressional District, which includes all or parts of Garrett, Montgomery, Frederick, Washington and Allegany counties.
CUMBERLAND — Constituent outreach and a seamless transition are among U.S. Rep. April McClain Delaney’s priorities as she settles into office.
Sworn in Jan. 3 as a member of the 119th Congress, she represents Maryland’s 6th Congressional District, which includes all or parts of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany and Garrett counties.
In a recent Cumberland Times-News interview, McClain Delaney, a Democrat, talked of her goals at the federal level to help Mountain Maryland residents.
The area needs better paying jobs, she said.

Washington D.C. – Today, Congresswoman April McClain Delaney (MD-06) officially took the oath of office as a member of the 119th Congress, representing Maryland’s 6th Congressional District, which includes all or parts of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties.
Freshman Rep. April McClain-Delaney (D-6th) might not need as much orientation as the other newcomers: Her husband, John Delaney, represented the 6th District for three terms, from 2013 to 2019. He was on hand Friday as she headed to the House for her swearing-in.
Maryland's congressional delegation went from having no women to having three. Rep. April McClain Delaney represents the 6th Congressional District; Rep. Sarah Elfreth represents the 3rd District.

“I do think that women focus on a lot of the issues that are important to families – the economy, affordable daycare – and a lot of the different issues that I think we haven't made progress against but we really need to,” McClain Delaney said.
