Congresswoman April McClain Delaney Releases Statement on Iran

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congresswoman April McClain Delaney (D-MD) released a statement following the Administration’s bombing of three of Iran’s nuclear sites:

“I'm thankful that the extraordinary American military was able to execute their mission last night safely and successfully. As I've repeatedly stressed, a nuclear-enabled Iran, the world’s largest state sponsor of global terror, poses a grave risk to American and global security.

I am deeply concerned that since 2001, four Presidents have waged war in three continents and dozens of countries without Congressional approval based on an open-ended, twenty-four years old Authorization for Use of Military Force. Congress must re-assert its role in authorizing war and be engaged directly in preemptive strikes, even strikes that successfully thwart Iran's nuclear ambitions.

The President has not briefed the Congress on his military and diplomatic strategy, nor on his plans to ensure the safety of tens of thousands of American military, diplomats and contractors overseas–this is urgently needed as we work toward a successful and peaceful outcome.”
