Rep. McClain Delaney Issues Statement on the Final Passage of the National Defense Authorization Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. —  Today, Congresswoman April McClain Delaney (D-MD) released a statement after voting for the passage of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2026:

“On a global stage gripped by uncertainty and growing threats, a well-supported military is essential to the protection of our country. Maryland is home to more than 25,000 active-duty military personnel, from Fort Detrick to Aberdeen Proving Ground. We have an obligation to support them and this investment is a step forward.

“This final version of NDAA, a result of bipartisan negotiation, honors our brave servicemembers and their families while placing safeguards on the reckless Trump Administration. Repealing the 1991 and 2002 Authorizations for the Use of Military Force, raising servicemember pay by 3.8 percent, and mandating transparency from the military when supporting domestic law enforcement are all important steps forward. This legislation also expands housing, healthcare, and childcare opportunities for military families.

“I am deeply disappointed though that Speaker Johnson and the House GOP included several partisan provisions. From the anti-LGBTQ+ restrictions on our service academies to striking the bipartisan, House-passed collective bargaining rights for civilian employees, and denying military families access to IVF services, these policies fail our values and our servicemembers. I will continue to work with my colleagues to fight back against these demeaning and cruel hearted attacks on our military and their families.”
