Congresswoman April McClain Delaney Hosts Town Hall with More Than 6,000 Attendees
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman April McClain Delaney hosted a town hall with a panel of experts to address the concerns of constituents related to the Trump administration’s actions against federal funding, agencies and workers. Throughout the hour-long event, more than 6,000 Marylanders tuned in via phone and livestream. Maryland’s 6th District is home to more than 35,000 federal employees, many of whom have reached out to the Congresswoman’s office with concerns.
Over the last few weeks, the Congresswoman’s team has answered thousands of phone calls and emails focused on Elon Musk’s access to their personal financial data, the Trump administration’s directive to freeze all federal funding and the letter to more than two million federal workers offering a buy-out from service.
In response to these sweeping actions, Congresswoman McClain Delaney has signed onto a multitude of letters sent to the Trump administration calling for more transparency and accountability in its actions, including a letter to Treasury Secretary Bessent regarding Elon Musk’s access to payment systems and a resolution condemning the recent pardons of violent January 6th rioters; attended multiple rallies with Congressional colleagues and union leaders in support of federal workers and agencies under threat including USAID and NOAA; and, of course, has continued to inform her constituents of what impact these actions may make in Maryland through social media, newsletters and, tonight, a live town hall.
This district-wide telephone town hall featured Daniel Horowitz from the AFL-CIO, a federation of 63 national and international labor unions that represents more than 15 million working people, and Megan Uzzell from Democracy Forward, a nonprofit research organization working to expose and litigate corruption in the Executive Branch of the United States government. Senator Angela Alsobrooks also joined to share how she is addressing these efforts through the U.S. Senate.
“We can and should work together to increase the efficiency of our government for the American people, but what we’ve seen from the Trump administration over the last few weeks falls short of this objective–these actions have only caused confusion and chaos,” said Congresswoman McClain Delaney. “I’ve heard from thousands of Marylanders concerned about how these overreaching actions will affect their farms, their WIC and SNAP benefits, the infrastructure projects they are constructing and the vital community services they and their families rely on. I proudly represent more than 35,000 federal employees in my district and thousands more who depend on these impacted programs to get by. Marylanders: we have your back.”
"I am proud to be on the frontlines with Congresswoman Delaney fighting for Marylanders. Right now, we know that Maryland jobs are being targeted. Over 150,000 Marylanders are civil servants, working on behalf of the American people. These aren't Republican jobs or Democratic jobs, these are American jobs. It is crucial that we protect these jobs not only for the Marylanders who earn their living at these jobs but for the countless Americans who rely on the work they do," said Senator Alsobrooks.
