McClain Delaney Secures Over $17 Million in Requested Federal Funds for Maryland’s 6th District
The federal Community Project Funding has been approved by Appropriations Subcommittees for inclusion in upcoming legislation, pending final passage by Congress
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman April McClain Delaney (D-MD) announced $17,059,133 in federal Community Project Funding (CPF) for projects across Maryland’s 6th District, with all 15 submissions approved for inclusion in this year’s appropriations package. In May, the Congresswoman fought for over $41 million for these projects—sadly, like last year, projects that Democrats submitted for their home districts were significantly cut by the Republican majority. Despite the cuts, Maryland’s 6th District is on track to receive the greatest amount of project funding for the 2026 fiscal year out of every Maryland district represented by a freshman Member of Congress.
The allotted funding provides crucial financial support for local communities and stands as a transformative investment in Maryland’s job market, infrastructure initiatives, and public safety.
“My priority has always been to deliver informed, direct support to those in my district who need it most — these community-based investments will go a long way for them,” said Congresswoman McClain Delaney. “In January, I worked with state and local officials to identify projects that could use federal funds to make the greatest impact; today, I am proud to see those investments come a step closer to fruition.”
The following funds were awarded to their designated projects by the House Committee on Appropriations and are awaiting final approval from Congress for inclusion in the FY 2026 federal funding package.
Allegany County
- $1,031,000 for the Frostburg State University Planetarium
- $986,000 for the Town of Lonaconing New Georges Creek Waterline
- $675,000 for the Potomac Fire Company No. 2 Engine Replacement
- $1,000,000 for the City of Cumberland Membrane Filtration Building
“The generous support from Congresswoman McClain Delaney for revitalizing the planetarium at Frostburg State University represents a transformative investment in STEM education and community enrichment in Western Maryland. This state-of-the-art facility will serve as a beacon of learning and discovery, inspiring students and residents alike to explore the wonders of the universe. The revitalized planetarium will not only enhance educational opportunities for a diversity of learners of all ages, but will also contribute to cultural and economic growth,” said Dr. Jason Speights, Associate Professor of Physics, Frostburg State University.
“The Town of Lonaconing deeply appreciates Congresswoman April McClain Delaney’s dedication to securing funding for the installation of water lines on New Georges Creek Road. This investment in our Western Maryland community will aid in improving the quality of life by ensuring reliable access to clean and safe drinking water for our residents and providing peace of mind by reducing concerns about water quality or potential service disruptions,” said Jack Coburn, Mayor of Lonaconing.
“Congresswoman McClain Delaney has consistently demonstrated her commitment to public safety, and her support for replacing our over 30-year-old engine is a testament to that dedication. In light of the recent floods that impacted Westernport and southern Allegany County, her efforts couldn't be more timely. This new apparatus will greatly enhance our ability to serve and protect our neighbors when seconds matter most," said Jonathan Dayton, FF/EMT & Public Information Officer.
“The City of Cumberland's Water Filtration Plant began serving the community in 1913 and continues to serve 46,000 community members with the original conventional filtration process. The existing plant is reaching the end of its useful life and is incapable of addressing emerging contaminants. With the support of the City's Federal partners, this grant will allow the City to begin design work on a new Water Filtration Building that will utilize state-of-the-art membrane filtration, which is capable of removing disinfection byproducts as well as emerging contaminants such as PFAS. This grant will aid in protecting our community's water supply for future generations,” said Ray Morriss, Mayor of Cumberland.
Frederick County
- $1,015,000 for the Brunswick Reservoir
- $3,000,000 for the Frederick Youth Center
- $1,000,000 for the Mount Saint Mary’s Quality Drinking Water Project
- $250,000 for the Taney Avenue Senior Center and Senior Affordable Housing
- $1,145,133 for the West Patrick Street at Maryvale Ditch Flood Mitigation
"The City of Brunswick’s storage reservoir has been a cornerstone of our municipal potable water distribution system for over a century. However, due to the inevitable effects of aging and structural degradation, the reservoir has experienced persistent leakage. The city plans to construct a modern, one-million-gallon concrete ground storage tank,” said Nathan Brown, Mayor of Brunswick. “This infrastructure investment is designed to ensure reliable water storage and fire protection for our community, with the hope that it will serve future generations for the next hundred years. Continued partnerships with our federal representatives remain critical for small communities and our infrastructure needs. We are pleased to see Congresswoman McClain Delaney include the Brunswick reservoir project as one of her community funding requests."
“The City of Frederick greatly appreciates Congresswoman McClain Delaney’s support for the Frederick Youth Center Project. This funding will bring us closer to opening a space designed to meet the needs of our youth, especially those facing systemic challenges. The Youth Center will serve as a hub for opportunity, connection, and growth, and we’re proud to move this vision forward alongside our community partners,” said Michael O’Connor, Mayor of Frederick.
“We are incredibly grateful to Congresswoman McClain Delaney for her support of our rural community’s quality drinking water project. The impact of this project will be felt by students and employees at the Mount, patients at Frederick Health Urgent Care, visitors at the National Shrine Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, and residents of the Town of Emmitsburg. A new water treatment plant will improve the water system’s reliability, efficiency, capacity, and resiliency—and strengthen our local, rural economy,” said Gerard J. Joyce, President of Mount Saint Mary's University.
"I am grateful and excited that Representative McClain Delaney has submitted the Taney Avenue Senior Center and Senior Housing Project to the Appropriations Committee for Community Project Funding,” says Frederick County Executive Jessica Fitzwater. “As Frederick County's senior population continues to grow rapidly, collocating affordable senior housing with essential public services is more important than ever. I’m proud that Representative McClain Delaney is championing that vision alongside us,” said Jessica Fitzwater, County Executive, Frederick County.
“I would like to thank Congresswoman McClain Delaney for advancing the Maryvale Ditch at West Patrick Street Flood Mitigation project to the Committee for consideration for Community Project Funding. This important flood mitigation intervention will address delays in emergency response, disruptions to transit service, and risks to health and safety for Frederick residents due to increasingly severe and frequent flooding of West Patrick Street,” said Michael O’Connor, Mayor of Frederick.

“We are thrilled with Congresswoman April Delaney's support of the Grantsville Connectivity Project. Her commitment to investing in infrastructure that enhances safety and accessibility is deeply appreciated. The Congresswoman recognizes the significance of the National Road—not just as a historic corridor, but as a vital, living connection for our community. This project will provide a safe and welcoming route to the heart of our Arts and Entertainment District, strengthening local businesses, tourism, and quality of life for residents and visitors alike,” said Mayor of Grantsville Emily Newtown-Edwards.
“We are incredibly grateful for Congresswoman McClain Delaney’s support of the Oakland Water System Improvements Project. This funding represents a vital investment in our community’s health, safety, and environmental resilience. This project is a critical step toward ensuring a sustainable and secure future for Oakland residents. We are deeply honored that our needs have been heard and that the well-being of our community has been recognized as a matter of importance,” said Andrew Sauder, Mayor of the Town of Oakland.
“We are very excited and grateful to be included as a top priority for funding by Congresswoman McClain Delaney. This funding, which supports the design and engineering phase of adding radiation oncology to our Cancer Center, means we will largely eliminate the need for cancer patients to travel to receive the care they need. Congresswoman McClain Delaney's leadership on this project will enable GRMC to provide lifesaving care close to home while improving health outcomes among some of Maryland’s most vulnerable, rural populations,” said Mark Boucot, Chief Executive Officer of WVU Medicine, Garrett Regional Medical Center in Oakland, Maryland.
Montgomery County
- $1,000,000 for the Gaithersburg Pedestrian Safety Improvements
“Funding this project will allow the City of Gaithersburg to invest in targeted pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure improvements in the Olde Towne community as recommended in the Gaithersburg 2024 Safe Routes to School study,” said Mayor Jud Ashman, City of Gaithersburg. “These investments will enhance pedestrian and bicycle safety, especially for children who walk or bike to our Gaithersburg Elementary, Middle, and High Schools, reduce traffic congestion, and improve the quality of life in Olde Towne. I appreciate the efforts of our City Council and staff to get us to this place, and Congresswoman McClain Delaney for her support for this important investment in the City of Gaithersburg.”
Washington County

- $850,000 for the City of Hagerstown Bridge Repair Program
“The City of Hagerstown wants to thank Congresswoman McClain Delaney for her efforts to secure funding for the City’s Bridge Repair Project. Bridges are a critical part of the City’s infrastructure, and are expensive to maintain; securing this funding will allow us to perform the maintenance necessary to keep these structures safe and functional,” said Scott Nicewarner, City Administrator, City of Hagerstown.
“San Mar Family & Community Services shares gratitude and sincere appreciation to Congresswoman April McClain Delaney and her team for their invaluable leadership and unwavering support in addressing the critical needs of transition-age youth across Western Maryland. This aligns perfectly with the shared vision of fostering environments where all young people can not only survive but truly thrive, achieving the kind of fulfilling outcomes that every family desires for its children,” said Keith Fanjoy, CEO, San Mar Family and Community Services, Inc.
