Congresswoman McClain Delaney Calls for Bipartisan Action to Protect Families, Energy Programs and ARC Funding
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman April McClain Delaney (D-MD) released a statement denouncing the House Majority’s Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act:
“Funding our government should always reflect the values we hold as families and communities: making life more affordable, keeping our loved ones healthy, protecting the world our children will inherit and ensuring America can compete for the future. Sadly, this bill does not live up to that responsibility. By cutting the Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy programs nearly in half, it risks raising families’ energy bills and undermining the innovation that will carry us forward. In Maryland, that means $2.2 million less—an over 40% cut—to help Marylanders lower their utility costs and support good-paying energy jobs.
Moreover, I am deeply concerned by the reduction in Appalachian Regional Commission funding from last year. While I fought to raise the allocation from the President’s $14 million request to $150 million in the final bill, this still represents a 25% cut from last year’s funding. For Western Maryland, that means fewer resources for the infrastructure, workforce training, and economic opportunities that allow families and small towns to thrive. Having seen the transformative work of the Commission firsthand, I cannot stand by while underinvestment threatens the progress and vitality of our district.
I’m voting against this legislation because Marylanders expect us to work across the aisle to fund our government responsibly—protecting health, lowering costs and building a stronger future. I continue to urge my Republican colleagues to choose a bipartisan path forward, and I will keep working every day to deliver on those priorities for the people I serve.”
