Congresswoman April McClain Delaney Condemns Efforts to Cut Education in Rural America and Undermine National Security
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman April McClain Delaney (D-MD) released a statement after voting against the White House and House Majority’s efforts to claw back nearly $10 billion of Congressionally-approved funding that supports public broadcasting and foreign aid in a rescissions package. You can read her statement on the legislation’s first passage through the U.S. House here.
“Once again, we voted on a deeply misguided effort to claw back $9.4 billion in already-approved funding—with devastating consequences for public broadcasting, humanitarian aid and national security. We should be moving forward, not rehashing harmful decisions that hurt working families and future generations.
This bill guts funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting—including PBS and NPR. For rural communities like my hometown of Buhl, Idaho, and across Western Maryland, these aren’t just programs—they’re lifelines. PBS provides free, trusted educational content for kids without access to broadband or early childhood education. NPR delivers reliable news to corners of the country that have too often been left behind by private corporations.
It also slashes foreign aid—strategic, bipartisan investments that prevent conflict, fight disease, combat hunger, and uphold American values around the world. These aren’t handouts; they keep Americans and our allies more secure.
We must stand by our values—for our kids and our communities.”
